Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer gift cards? What about payment or financing plans?

Justin Hahn

We do offer gift cards! Our gift cards are available in any denomination and can be used for 5 years from date of purchase with no penalty or fees.

Our gift cards can be used for any product or service provided by Tritex so you always have options! Rest assured that we have been a mainstay and dedicated to our clients in central Ohio for 50 years so we will be here to help when you need us.

Unfortunately, we do not offer financing or payment plans. We accept all major credit cards, cash or check in addition to working with your insurance company if needed.

MY NEW CAR HAS THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE SEAT- CAN YOU ADD FOAM/ CHANGE THE SEAT DESIGN?

Justin Hahn

Not easily and not economically. The seat cover on your seat is a tailored seat cover. It’s made to fit that seat perfectly. Adding or removing materials changes the shape of the seat and will change the seat cover. We can modify the seat cover and even occasionally make new matching the existing design but there are limitations based on the year of the vehicle- see the airbag thread below.

Also, when modifying the seat, specifically adding material, we’re making the seat bigger and it may interfere with how the seat operates. For example, adding a few inches of foam to the bottom of the seat may affect how the seat reclines forward. Also, some manufacturers - specifically Tesla - do not allow for the modification of seats or seat covers. Doing this may void your vehicle warranty so it’s always best to check with the vehicle manufacturer first.

THE WINDOW IN MY CONVERTIBLE TOP HAS FALLEN OUT, CAN YOU PUT IT BACK IN?

Justin Hahn

Unfortunately not. The windows in convertible tops (for the most part) are manufactured into the top. They are heat pressed and/ or sewn in during the manufacturing process. To put the window back in/ replace it, we’d need to remove the top (you can’t put it under a sewing machine/ heat press while still on the car) carefully, repair it and then try to reinstall it back on the car in the same holes. By the time you take the top off carefully and put it back on, you’ve already spent the labor it would cost to replace the top (and possibly more) and you still have an old top with a compromised window. If the glue failed around the window, you’re likely seeing other deterioration around the top as well.

There are always the exceptions and you can always call us to discuss your specific vehicle. Our sales and service team is always happy to help you and our quotes are always free with no obligation.

The airbag seam on my car seat/ dash blew out. Can you re-sew that?

Justin Hahn

No. And you shouldn’t have another upholstery shop sew it either unless they have the proper equipment/ testing.

Airbag seams are made with a certain thread that is sewn in with a specific tension on a special machine so that it will blow apart when your airbag deploys. Improperly sewing that seam can result in the airbag not properly deploying and could injure you or your passengers in the event of an accident.

If you have a seat that has had an airbag deploy, you should replace that cover with an OEM cover or with a cover that is properly rated to blow out in the event of an airbag deployment.

Contact Tritex today for options on replacing seat covers for your specific vehicle. We offer a wide selection of OEM and aftermarket solutions for all vehicles to fit your budget and needs.

My car seat is cracking and looks terrible, can you paint/ dye it?

Justin Hahn

We’ve all seen the videos on Youtube that tell you how to “paint your seat and make it look brand new”. Please don’t do that! And no, we won’t do it for you.

Painting/ dying a high wear area on your seat is asking for trouble and a lot of headaches. Dying usually consists of paint and then a sealer but depending on what you use to clean your seat and how much wear it takes, that sealer will come off and often leaves you with painted clothes and splotchy seats. Some products take the dye out of your clothes and transfer it to the seat. We recommend dying/ painting/ fill only on small tears or cracks in areas that don’t get wear such as the back sides of seats, door panels, etc.

If your seat is in need of some love, we have other options for you. Our repairs consist of cutting the damaged panels out of the seat and sewing in new, matching material. We can typically get a pretty close match that is hard to discern from the original seat and our customers frequently tell us “it looks like a new seat”. Replacing panels ensures you have a durable and lasting repair that you won’t need to worry about in the future.

Call us for specific pricing and customized quote. Most panel replacements can be done for around $400 and take less than a day to complete. Our most common repairs are done on Mercedes and Lexus seat bottoms.

Do you reupholster home furniture?

Justin Hahn

Unfortunately our home furniture experience is limited. Home furniture is a specialized trade and while we do take on some older, classic furniture projects or dining room chair projects, the lazy boy furniture and home sofa is best left to the professionals!

If in doubt, give us a call and we’re happy to look at it for you and if we can’t do it, we can make some great recommendations for talented furniture upholsterers here in central Ohio that can.

My headliner is falling down, how do I fix it?

Justin Hahn

Unfortunately, there isn’t much “fixing'“ that you can do once your headliner starts to fall down. When the material starts to fall, it’s actually delaminating from the foam that it was manufactured together with and that is what that sticky, typically yellow mess is that gets all over your car is when the headliner sags.

Tritex can help though! We remove your headliner completely from the vehicle and we clean off all of the old foam and material. We then apply new material over the entire headliner board ensuring that it won’t come down for years to come.

Typical replacement costs won’t break the bank either. A new headliner in a typical 4 door sedan runs around $450 with sunroof panels costing just a bit more. This replacement is typically done in one day.

If you’re looking for a quick fix and just don’t want to spend the money- don’t spend your hard earned money and time trying to glue that material back up . They don’t work and depending on the glue you use, it may not be able to be removed leaving a bubbly mess that will show through your headliner if you decide to fix it in the future. Instead, buy some thumbtacks, scuff up the heads and spray paint them to match your headliner. Just push them into the headliner where needed to keep the headliner up out of your face! If you decide to have the material replaced in the future, you won’t see the holes from the tacks.

Do you replace convertible tops?

Justin Hahn

We do! In fact, we’re one of the leading installers of convertible tops in central Ohio! We put tops on all makes and models including American, Asian and European, classics or current models. Our clients include owners, collectors, restoration specialists, car dealers, body shops, maintenance shops and more! Our turn times range from a couple of days (new model vehicles) to a week or more depending on the age of the top. Older model vehicles tend to need a little more work that can’t be seen until the top is removed.
